FORT HUACHUCA

| See the Deer? |
Fort Huachuca and Sierra Vista are very beautiful places and have a special place in our heart. We visited, probably 15 or so years ago, when our son, Brian was stationed here. I love it, the climate is ideal. In the winter, not sure about the summer. It is high desert. The temperature is usually about 10 degrees cooler than Tucson. It did get down to almost freezing several nights, but the days were beautiful. It is surrounded by beautiful mountains. Lots of deer and birds. The area is full of military history. In fact, they have three museums right on the post. The museum, the annex and the U.S. Army Intelligence Museum. I know that can be an oxymoron to some. : ) We visited all three. I found the history about the "Buffalo Soldiers" quite interesting. Back in the day, all black soldiers were segregated in their own unit. The nickname came from the Indians. Because of their black curly hair, it reminded them of buffalo, plus they were fierce fighters.

Also included in the Museum were rooms set up with period furniture and life size mannequins.

Another interesting mystery. A huge balloon resembling a blimp. We came up with a possibility of its purpose. Could be monitoring of the Mexican border, which is about 40 miles away. Might be checking for low flying planes. Drug runs from Mexico. Who knows! That's the moon immediately off to the left of the balloon. Wish I would have used our good camera with telephoto.
