KEY WEST FLORIDA

SIGSBEE RV PARK * KEY WEST NAVAL STATION

We arrived on Key West on December 14.  The highway thru the Keys was nothing like we imagined.  You always see pictures of long bridges connecting small islands.  Actually some of the Keys are quite large.  Only one really long bridge, which is seven miles.   Lots and lots of construction on Key West it's self.  The directions to the RV Park said go to mile marker 3 and turn right.  We didn't see any mile marker until we got down to 1.  If you have ever been to Key West you know how tiny the streets are with lots of large overhanging trees.  Nobody could actually believe that Vern drove our motorhome in downtown Key West!!  Got to give it to him, he's a pro!!  Anyway we ended up at the Coast Guard Station, but eventually made it back to Sigsbee.  Our first spot was located about 20 feet overlooking the Gulf of Mexico.  The way it works at Sigsbee:  They have around 95 spots with full hook up, meaning water, electricity, and sewer.  They have about 400 sites without any hook ups.  We call that "dry camping".  So you have to depend on your generator to provide you with power to run the refrigerator, lights, etc.  Can't run an air conditioner off the generator power.  Since we arrived early, before Christmas, we were lucky and we got moved into full hook ups in a week and a day.  Most snow birds come after Christmas.  We had every window in the RV open, day and night and you slept with out any sheet or blanket.  It is very hot and humid there.  You are only allowed to stay in full hook ups for two weeks, then you have to move and let someone else have a turn.
The Gulf out our front door.
This is on the Atlantic side of the Island.
Come to find out all the sand on the public beaches was brought in from the Bahamas.
The full moon thru our bedroom window at 7:00 a.m. thru the screened window.  It was beautiful.  Sorry the picture does not do it justice.
