AND WE'RE OFF!

OVER THE BRIDGE AND THRU THE TUNNEL
First bridge over the Chesapeake Bay near Annapolis MD

Because of the traffic around the DC beltway, we decided to take the more scenic relaxed route over the Chesapeake Bay and near the Maryland shore.  The Northern crossing was only several miles.  But between the four bridges and two tunnel tolls, it cost us $58.00.

WE THOUGHT THE ASTORIA BRIDGE WAS LONG
I have tried and tried to put a video of one of the tunnels on this page.  It is amazing!  The bridges combined with the two tunnels total 23 miles!  It was kind of scary going down into a tunnel in the middle of the bay.  Each tunnel was about 1 mile long and went under the shipping lanes.  I was really glad Vern is such a good driver and that he was the driver.  At the end of the 23 miles we ended up in South Hampton, Norfolk Virginia.

If I am able to figure out how to put a video on this page later, you will want to see it.  I do need to move on though while I have some half way decent internet.
