SAVANNAH GEORGIA
 |
| All the squares were lined with huge trees. |
Where the Spanish Moss hangs from trees. We were warned not to take any home with us, it is full of chiggers!!! That reminds me of the sign in the State Park up in North Carolina. "Don't feed the ticks". We didn't! Anyway back to Georgia. Everybody that we have met on the road recommended Savannah as a must see. We spent all yesterday downtown riding around in a trolley and walking the streets. It was a real step back in time. Wonderful old mansions and buildings. Lots of them from the mid 1700's. After the Revolutionary War it became a great place to grow cotton and rice. We have seen some cotton fields along the freeway, but haven't had a chance to take a picture yet.

Notice the double entry steps. Back in the day it was disrespectful for a man to look at a woman's legs or ankles as they were going up stairs. So one side was for the men and the other side for the
ladies. A far cry from today, right?
We ate lunch at Joe's Crab House over looking the Savannah River. It is the fourth busiest port in the US. Vern saw several dolphins bobbing in the river. I missed seeing them.
They had some river cruises

For 43 years she met every ship that entered the port with a waving towel during the day and a lantern by night. | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | |
