MEETING COUSINS I NEVER KNEW I HAD UNTIL A COUPLE YEARS AGO!
Kathy Kendrick, Roger Hallengren, and Eric Hallengren
Their grandmother and my grandmother were sisters. They immigrated from Finland to the States in the late 1800's and early 1900's. They married, and my grandmother moved with her family to Washington. Their grandmother moved to Ohio, then on to Maryland. My mother told me of cousins living in the Baltimore area and I started communicating with with a different cousin from another sibling. She passed away several years ago and Kathy was helping go thru her things. She was single and had no children. Kathy found a Christmas card from us, and responded with her contact information. (I know who had a hand in that!)
All three cousins took us out to a lovely restaurant right on Baltimore Harbor. We had a wonderful seafood dinner. But the conversation was the best. Hearing many stories about their youth.
One of the best: After college Eric and Roger traveled to Spain. Not sure if it was their purpose for going or not, but Eric wanted to "Run with the Bulls" at Pampalona. As in years past, sometimes there is a big pile up right out of the gate. To make a long and humorous (now) story short, he got stepped on by a huge bull. It dislocated his shoulder, punctured his lung, etc. While in the hospital, they keep asking for his insurance information. He said he just graduated from college and had none. Finally before he was released an official came and said that the city would pay for his medical bills, because that is what draws people to watch, an American get gored! His picture was on the front page of all the local newspapers.
